Description

A delicious sandwich made with leftover steak, caramelized onions, bell peppers, and melted provolone cheese, all nestled in a toasted hoagie roll.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups leftover steak, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 small green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 small red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 4 slices provolone cheese
  • 2 hoagie rolls
  • Optional: mayonnaise, hot sauce, or garlic butter

Instructions

  1. Slice the leftover steak as thinly as possible against the grain.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add sliced onions and both bell peppers. Cook for 6–8 minutes until soft and lightly caramelized. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Push the veggies to one side of the skillet. Add the sliced steak to the other side and cook for 2–3 minutes until warmed through.
  4. Toss the vegetables and steak together in the skillet. Lower the heat and layer provolone slices over the mixture. Cover with a lid or foil to help the cheese melt for 1–2 minutes.
  5. Split the hoagie rolls and toast them until golden and slightly crisp.
  6. Once the cheese is melted, scoop the steak and veggie mixture into the toasted rolls and serve hot.

Notes

Use quality steak for best results. Cut against the grain for tenderness and toast the rolls to prevent sogginess.
