Description
A versatile homemade syrup recipe that allows for endless flavor customization, perfect for pancakes, coffee, and desserts.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
- Pinch of salt (optional)
- Cinnamon stick (optional)
- Citrus peel (optional)
- Fresh herbs (optional)
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of granulated sugar and 1 cup of water. Stir to combine.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat. Stir constantly until the sugar fully dissolves. Do not let the mixture boil; a gentle simmer is ideal.
- Once the sugar is dissolved, reduce the heat to low. If using flavoring ingredients, add them now and simmer for 5–10 minutes to allow the flavors to infuse.
- Remove the saucepan from heat. Stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and a pinch of salt if desired. Remove any solid flavoring ingredients.
- Let the syrup cool completely. Pour into a sterilized glass jar or bottle and store in the refrigerator for up to one month.
Notes
Don’t let it boil too vigorously to avoid reducing the syrup too much. Sterilize your container before pouring the syrup, and label the jar with the date.
